Alexander Ovechkin had to miss his first game in a very long time tonight due to an illness with his Grandfather. Alexander had played in 203 consecutive games and 253 of 254 in his career. I’m sure it was not a hard decision to make as family should always come first. The Capitals took the ice tonight vs. the Nashville Predators in Washington and new they had to give it all they could for Alexander.

Washington out shot Nashville 19-4 in the first period and had a 26-11 advantage after 40 minutes, but the teams entered the third period tied at 2. Semin put Washington up 3-2 with 18:02 left in regulation, scoring a power-play goal off a pass from Nicklas Backstrom. Then Arnott tied the game with 6:36 remaining, redirecting a blast by Ryan Suter past Theodore. This brought the bout to OT where both teams came up empty. You know what that means right? The line ups for both teams and the results:

Michael Nylander brought the Capitals to a 2 – 1 game in the shoot outs leaving Martin Erat one last try to keep it going for Nashville. Theodore Makes one last save to give the Caps the win and the 2 points that they needed for the team and Alexander Ovechkin.
